What is the Dundee Youth Fund?

Dundee Youth Fund is exclusively aimed at awarding grants to projects and activities that support the development of learning opportunities in Dundee for young people aged 10 to 25 who live, work or study in Dundee up to a maximum of £2500 per application within a total fund of £25,000.

All projects must be delivered in Dundee.

Dundee Youth Fund follows a Participatory budgeting (PB) model which is a democratic process in which young people decide directly how to spend part of a public budget. Dundee City Council support PB as a tool for community empowerment and as a resource to build on the wider development of participatory democracy in the City, especially around young people being active citizens and being involved in decision making within the city.

Previously the fund was administered in partnership with young people via a steering group. We decided to consult with young people across the city to find out what they felt would be the best way to involve them in the allocation and spending of this fund, and how we go about that.

Consultations took place in September to October 2022 and involved talking to young people across the City and from the Voluntary Sector with 88 young people taking part. Those who took part in the consultation indicated that their preference was for local online voting, (52.8%), resulting in the agreement that Dundee Youth Fund would become a participatory budgeting process across the city.
