Stirling Volunteers: Meet Carlene

My name is Carlene and I started off as a volunteer in Braehead Crawford Hall Community Centre over ten years ago.

I had a passion to work with young people and help within my local community. At this time I had recently suffered with some medical issues and thought volunteering would help me to rebuild my self-confidence and support me back into social situations. The Senior Phase and Youth Participation Team (which was called something else back then) had a massive positive impact on me and helped me grow in terms of confidence and abilities. There was many opportunities to work with young people in various contexts. I started in a youth club and have since had various roles throughout the service. This opened my eyes to how important the community is to our young people. The Team has also given me many opportunities over the years to use my own creative skills and develop a better understanding of youth work and I am very grateful to have volunteered and now work for such an amazing Team.
