Five Self-Care Tips

Daily life can be hectic with so many different commitments, but no matter how busy life gets it is always important to take time out for you.

Self-care

Self-care is simply care provided for you, by you. It’s about taking time for yourself to treat yourself as kindly as you would treat others.

What self-care methods will work for you are as individual as you are, it is about doing something that you will enjoy and find comfort and relaxation in. Self-care isn’t selfish, in fact, it’s necessary. Luckily enough, there are lots of ways you could do this.

1) Watch a film

Hide from the cold Scottish weather, and have a cosy night in to watch a film. It could be a DVD of your all-time favourite film that you’ve seen 100 times or a film you’ve never seen before. You could choose something on an online streaming service, or head to your local cinema for the newest releases!

2) Meet up with friends

Keeping in touch with your friends and being social is a great way to look after your mental health, while having fun with your favourite people!

3) Do something new

Take up a new hobby. This could be anything from trying a new sport or joining the gym, to joining a local youth group or learning to play an instrument. Anything you enjoy doing on a regular basis is great!

4) Get lost in another world

Get lost in your favourite book, TV show or game. Sometimes it can be nice to switch off from the outside world and all the stresses that can come with it. By immersing yourself in the life of a character from the TV show you’ve been watching, book you’ve been reading or game you’re playing, you can do just that.

5) Listen to music

Make a playlist of your favourite songs to listen to, dance or sing along to. There’s something about music that’s bound to lift your spirits and make you smile!

These are just some ideas, but what you do is up to you and depends on what you feel you need to do to take care of yourself.
