Hi! I’m John Gilfillan. I’m a Libraries and Communities Officer with Glasgow Life.
I work right across the city. I am responsible for our Youth Engagement and Participation programme, which supports young people to become involved in decision-making. I support young people in Glasgow Youth Council and the Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament in the work they do representing all of the young people in the city. I’m also responsible for our Young Scot and National Entitlement card programme making sure you have access to all the benefits of the card and working to ensure you can get cards quickly and easily.
How long have you worked for Glasgow Life?
I’ve worked for Glasgow Life for 25 years, starting out as a Community Education Worker working in the Govanhill and Battlefield areas of the city.
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
I love seeing young people get involved in things and having new experiences. Youth work makes such a difference to young people’s lives and it’s amazing what some of the young people I have worked have gone on to do 😊
Tell us a fun fact about yourself
When I was at school, I wrote a Christmas song that won a competition and was played on the radio.
