At the Glasgow South Carer’s Centre, our aim is to provide support to unpaid carers across the South of Glasgow. In particular, young carers. A young carer is a young person who looks after a family member, neighbour or friend who can’t manage without their support. This might be due to illness, disability, a mental health condition or an addiction.
I don’t know what I would do without the Young Carer’s Centre.
We provide support for young carers from across the southside of Glasgow, but we are based in Govanhill at:
The Dixon Community, 656 Cathcart Road, Glasgow G42 8AA
All of our services are free of charge. Support available for young carers includes:
- Information and advice relating to your role as a carer
- 1:1 emotional support, and support in a group with other people with similar experiences
- Training on how to deal with particular conditions
- Training to build your skills to help support you
- Advice on how to make the most of your income, including coping with fuel poverty and dealing with benefits
- Emergency and future care planning
- Funding access for short breaks
- Carer’s voice
We also run a support network for young carers called YC Connect. This will allow members to get involved in a range of fun activities during the school holidays.
We aim to make sure that all carers have the skills, knowledge and support to help you care for people to live well with their condition and to support you to maintain your own mental and physical wellbeing while you care for other people.
