Glasgow MSYPs – Cathcart – Cathrine Munzararikwa

Ellie Craig, MSYP for Glasgow Cathcart

Hey! I’m a student at Castlemilk High School in Glasgow. I became an MSYP because I think that a lot of young people in my community struggle with their mental health and I want to make sure that they feel ok and they feel able to get the most out of life. I want to encourage a community where young people are able to talk to counsellors and get mental health advice.

I think that youth workers, teachers and other people who work with young people feel underappreciated at times and I want to change that so that they can work to the best of their ability and stay in the job instead of leaving to work in other sectors.

What do you want to achieve as an MSYP

I want young people to have equal opportunities after school, regardless of financial background, race or academic ability. In an ideal community there are more apprenticeships and jobs in different fields that young people can access. Also, young people should get access to more financial support.

I also think that alcohol and drug abuse in young people is killing our youth, which kills the community. In an ideal community, young people can go out and have fun while doing fun, age appropriate activities. I want to create a community like that.

What are three important issues you’re passionate about?

I’m most interested in Health and Wellbeing, Education and Lifelong Learning, and Jobs, Economy and Fair Work.  These are the issues that I will work on as an MSYP. I want to hear from everyone who wants to get in touch to work on these issues with me.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

I can speak three languages fluently and English is my third language!
