Glasgow MSYPs – Shettleston – Faith Olawuji

Faith Olawuyi, MASYP For Glasgow Shettleston

Hey! my name is Faith, and my pronouns are she/her. i have just finished high school recently so I’m about to enter the world of “adulting” which is both very scary and very exciting.   I’m currently a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Young Women lead 2024 as well as a member of Young Scot’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champions Panel. I’m extremely honoured to be a part of both projects!

I wanted to become an MSYP to try and help give young people within my constituency a voice as I feel that many people within my area are underrepresented and often unheard.   As someone that takes public transport often, I am of the firm belief that it is definitely a system that needs improving and I wanted to be a part of helping to improve public transport within Scotland.

What do you want to achieve as an MSYP

I would like to start a youth board within my constituency or part of my constituency due to the sheer size of Glasgow Shettleston. I want to help provide young people with a chance to vocalise their thoughts and opinions to decision makers and to feel heard when doing so.   This idea will also provide an opportunity for many young people to come together and socialise.

What are three important issues you’re passionate about?

I am extremely passionate about women’s health/ education on women’s health as in modern day women are still being dismissed and ignored until illnesses become fatal.   I’m also extremely passionate about public transport and equality. i would like for public transport to continue to help people as opposed to being an economic burden or a hinderance.   I firmly believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect regardless of their protected characteristics.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

i am originally from Nigeria so I’m a huge fan of the summer, minus the bugs, and Afrobeats, a genre of music that is very popular in Nigeria. I’m a proud member of the Yoruba tribe and it has a huge influence on my life. Jollof rice is a staple meal in my house.
