LEAP Sports Scotland

LEAP Sports Scotland works for greater inclusion for LGBTI people in sport and against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in a sports context. We are committed to breaking down the structural, social and personal barriers which prevent LGBTI people across the country from accessing, participating and excelling in Scottish sports.

We offer weekly activities for young people in Glasgow, in different locations accessible by public transport from the city centre. We also organise yearly events in different locations around Scotland and sometimes travel with young people to events in England and Wales.

Our programmes and events for young people:

LGBTIQ+ Youth Sports Group   Wednesday evenings in Glasgow This is a free, regular physical activity group for 1317yearolds who identify as LGBTIQ+ or are questioning. 2h sessions include various physical activities, relaxed activities, and social time. Have fun, learn something new, make friends, feel better, and get active in a beginnerfriendly inclusive space! More information on our website or signup form.

Pride Youth Games   August every year in Scotland, England, or Wales This is a free weekend residential for 1625yearold LGBTIQ+ people to try physical activities in an inclusive and fun space. People take part through their youth groups or with LEAP. Next year’s event is in Scotland! More information on our website.

LGBTIQ+ History Month Youth Bowling Tournament   February every year in Falkirk A fun and relaxed tenpin bowling tournament for LGBTIQ+ youth groups to compete for the Youth Cup for free. Young people without a youth group may be able to take part with LEAP. More information on our website.

A bit more about the weekly group:

In this weekly group, LGBTIQ+ and questioning 1317yearolds can try different physical activities in an inclusive environment. You don’t have to have any experience with sports to take part, it’s really just an opportunity to connect with others, try new things, and feel more confident

The sessions are 2 hours on Wednesday evenings (initially 68pm). Each session consists of an instructed physical activity (in 6week blocks on a beginner level to get to know the sport well), and casual games and social time.  The sessions, starting on the 28th of August, are completely free! Come to as many sessions as you would like. The first 6 weeks are outdoors in the Southside of Glasgow after which we will have a regular space indoors

Sessions are organised and run by LEAP Sports staff and volunteers. Sports and physical activities are run by inclusive sports providers, who are often part of the LGBTIQ+ community

What you can expect: Kind, validating, and inclusive space Sports and physical activities decided by you No sports experience necessary Beginner friendly For all bodies Neurodivergent and mental illness friendly Fun atmosphere Personal participation support available All LGBTIQ+ young people and those questioning their identity are welcome! We especially encourage young people on the Sandyford Gender Identity Service waiting list to take part as a way to feel better while waiting for gender affirming care

“I felt so happy, positive and learned a lot about myself. I learned I am actually good at sports which I did not expect. I felt included and valued and would recommend this to anyone.”
