What You Need to Sign Up
If you’re 11-18 and helping to care for a family member, friend or someone in your community, you’re eligible for the Young Carers Package. To sign-up you will need:
- A mygovscot myaccount – if you don’t have one it only takes 5 minutes to set one up
- The name and email address of a trusted professional that would be happy to confirm that you provide a care role. This could be:
- A member of staff at your school/college/university e.g. teacher, administrator, pupil support worker, guidance teacher, pastoral care teacher, educational psychologist
- A member of staff at your local carers centre
- A youth worker
- A social worker
- Family solicitor
- Employer, yours or your cared for person’s
- A healthcare professional e.g. GP, school nurse, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, dietitian, paediatrician, pharmacist, Childhood and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHs)
- Extracurricular club staff e.g. coach at a sport you take part in, afterschool club, other outside of school activities
- A professional who supports your cared for person or the adult in your family, any of the above
- Around 15 minutes to complete the whole sign-up process
- Your Young Scot National Entitlement Card (Young Scot NEC)

Aged 11?
Unfortunately, due to data protection laws under 12’s will not be able to sign up for Young Scot Membership. If you are 11 and have a caring role we have a separate application form for the Young Carer Package for those under 12.

Aged 12 – 18?
Follow the below steps to apply for the Young Carers Package.
Registering for mygovscot myaccount and Young Scot Membership
1. Go to membership.young.scot to get started. From there you will be able to view opportunities but you won’t be able to access them until you log in. To sign up click on the person icon on the top right-hand side of the page. This will open a page where you can register for or log in to your mygovscot myaccount.

2. If you do not have a mygovscot myaccount, enter you email and click ‘continue’. You will see a message that says ‘Account does not exist. Please try a different email or click Register to create a new account.’ You should click ‘Register’ to set up your account.

3. You should then click, send ‘Send Verification Email’. From your email account, you should select the link that says ‘Register’ to continue the sign up process.

4. You will then be asked to add your account details. Your full name, date of birth and address are required.

5. You will then be asked to set up your password, keep this safe and you’ll need it later to sign in.

6. After you click complete registration, you’ll be asked to read and accept the mygovscot myaccount terms of service, make sure to read these carefully before accepting.

7. Once you have accepted the terms of service, head back to membership.young.scot and sign in.
8. You will be asked for your consent to share your details with Young Scot for the purpose of creating a Young Scot Membership account. You should select ‘Yes, share these details’.

9. The next step is for you to accept the Young Scot Terms and Conditions. Read these carefully and at the bottom of the page, click ‘Accept’.
10. The final step is for you to enter your Young Scot National Entitlement Card details. This is mandatory to access Young Scot Membership and the Young Carers Package.
Don’t have a Young Scot NEC? You can get one online at getyournec.scot. You can find out more information about the applications process on the getyournec.scot website.
You should select ‘Add Young Scot Card’ and enter your post code and 16 digit card number. Your card number is under your name on your Young Scot National Entitlement Card.


If you get the message below, this indicates some of the information you have entered doesn’t match the details on your card. Your full name, date of birth and postcode should match exactly. The postcode you should enter is the postcode your card was sent to. If you are having any problems linking your card, email us at membership@young.scot. We’ll help your resolve this so you can apply for the Young Carers Package.

Then… you’re in! You’ve now registered for a Young Scot Membership account. The next steps will go through applying for the Young Carers Package.
Applying for the Young Carers Package
1. To apply for the Young Carers Package, click on ‘More‘ at the top of the page

2. This will take you to this page where you should select ‘Young Carers Package’

3. You will then need to complete the short application form. Depending on the information you provide it can take up to five working days for your application to be processed.
4. You will receive an email notification if your application is approved. You can now check out what’s available to you!
You can now download the Young Scot app to access the Young Carers Package and more!
