Stirling Young Filmmakers

Stirling Young Filmmakers is a new initiative which has been developed by Stirling’s Youth Learning Development Officer (Creativity and Culture) to create opportunities for young people in Stirling to become involved in filmmaking – learning basic filmmaking skills such as sound recording, filming interviews, using video editing software and post-production. They will also look at some of the creative approaches used, helping the young filmmakers find ways of visualising their ideas and generating imagery in response to the project’s themes.

At the start of the year we launched a wildlife filmmaking project and a music video project and over 30 young people from across Stirling secondary schools are taking part in these.

The projects are being led by filmmakers and educators Kimberly O’Neill and Duncan Marquiss, in exciting partnerships with musician Liv Dawn; the Education and Ranger teams at the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and the Creative Industries department at Forth Valley College who are piloting the new SQA Film and Screen Award, part of Screen Scotland’s draft Film and Screen Curriculum.

Both projects will be completed next month and a showcase of the films created will happen in August 2025.

If you would like to know more about these opportunities or to be involved with future filmmaking opportunities like this, please contact creativelearning@stirling.gov.uk
