City Centre South Active Travel: Your feedback matters!

As part of Stirling Council’s vision:

To develop a fair and clean transport system for everyone in our region that benefits people and place while protecting the planet.

We are developing four high quality, safe active travel routes connecting communities in the south of Stirling city with each other and the City Centre.

These routes will enable people to walk, wheel or cycle to school, work and for recreation on high quality, safe infrastructure.

The four routes: Burghmuir Road; A9 Bannockburn; St. Ninians and; Glasgow Road converge at St. Ninian’s Roundabout and link to the existing Walk, Cycle, Live Stirling infrastructure and proposed infrastructure along Kerse Road.

Why Active Travel and Why Now?

Active travel refers to walking, wheeling (travelling by wheelchair or mobility aid) and cycling as a mode of transport. Active travel is fundamental for Scotland and Stirling’s transition to a net zero transport system.

Stirling’s transport CO2 emissions per head are currently 40% higher than the Scottish average. The impact of climate change in Scotland is that the climate is getting rainier and stormier, and rainy spells are getting heavier. By switching to more active modes of transport, particularly for shorter journeys, we can significantly reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions we are polluting into the atmosphere.

In addition to emission reduction benefits, more people using active travel and public transport can help take the strain off the NHS. Evidence also shows that increases in physical activity, including walking, wheeling, cycling can lead to improved health and wellbeing outcomes such as reduced risk of cancer, cardiovascular diseases and mental ill health.

Improving the sustainable transport network gives people better access to education, jobs and services, bringing economic and health benefits and making society fairer.

How can you get involved?

What do you think would encourage and enable more people to walk, wheel and cycle?
