About the app

1. What is the Young Scot app?

The Young Scot app gives you access to all your favourite discounts and rewards plus added features to help you make the most of Young Scot services on the go. You should continue using your physical card to access free bus travel and for proof of age.

2. How do you get the app? Is it available on Android or Apple?

The app can be downloaded from the app store on Android and Apple devices.

3. What’s on the Young Scot app?

Once you have downloaded the app, you will be able to navigate your way to lots of Young Scot services.

  • Home – find an overview of your information including your Young Scot points total and opportunities you can apply for! Here, you can order a replacement Young Scot National Entitlement Card if your details have not changed.
  • For you – search discounts, exclusive rewards, competitions and more! This is also where you can access packages such as the Young Carers Package.
  • Digital card – use your digital card for show and go discounts in stores across Scotland.
  • Near me – search for discounts in your local area or in your next Scottish destination.

4. Why should I download this app?

If you are a Young Scot member already, the app is now a handy way to access your account on the go! The app gives you access to lots of exciting new features such as a ‘near me’ map to show your nearest Young Scot discounts. If you have already linked your card to the Young Scot app and if your personal details haven‘t changed, you can also use the app to order a replacement Young Scot National Entitlement Card as well as access show and go discounts with your digital card.

5. I am no longer eligible for the free bus travel because I’m over 22-years-old – why should I download the app?

You can access the Young Scot app until your 26th birthday. It has brilliant opportunities for you to save on essentials with discounts as well as win exciting rewards by doing fun activities!

6. Am I eligible to use the app?

Any young person aged 12-25 in Scotland with a Young Scot National Entitlement Card can use the Young Scot app. For more information visit young.scot/card

Signing up

1. What is Young Scot Membership? Do I have to be signed up to use the app?

All you need to sign up for the app is a Young Scot National Entitlement Card. Click ‘register’ and follow the instructions.  

Once you’ve created a mygovscot myaccount you can log into the app and earn Young Scot points and exchange them for exclusive rewards and enter competitions, access online discounts and unique opportunities. If you’re already a member, log in using your Young Scot Membership account details (mygovscot myaccount) and follow the instructions to link your Young Scot National Entitlement Card. Your existing points and information will be in the app!

2. Do I have to link my Young Scot National Entitlement Card to the app?

Yes, to access the opportunities on the app, you will need to link your current Young Scot National Entitlement Card. Card lost or stolen? Head to young.scot/card to find information about replacing your card.

3. My Young Scot National Entitlement Card number has not been accepted in the app. What should I do? 

Make sure you’re entering the 16-digit number on your current Young Scot National Entitlement Card (without spaces). You can find this number under your name and above your date of birth. You will also need to make sure that your name, address and date of birth details on your mygovscot myaccount match what is on your card. If you need help linking your card, please complete our contact form and member of the team will be in touch.

4. I’ve entered some details incorrectly when creating a mygovscot myaccount and can’t access the Young Scot app. What should I do?

If you’ve entered some details incorrectly when signing up, you can go back and update them by logging into mygovscot myaccount and then edit the details from your dashboard.

Your name and date of birth need to match what is on your card, so if a parent or guardian is helping you to sign up and they enter their details, we won’t be able to verify your account. 

5. What happens if I log out accidentally?

Simply log back in with your mygovscot myaccount details. If you’ve changed your settings, you may be able to log back in with facial recognition or with a passcode.

Using the app

1. Can I use this app to get on the bus for free?

You can use the digital card in your app for show and go discounts in stores across Scotland. Continue to use your physical Young Scot National Entitlement Card to get free bus travel and for proof of age. For more information about the card visit young.scot/card

2. Can I use the app to prove my age?

You can use the digital card in your app for show and go discounts in stores across Scotland. Continue to use your physical Young Scot National Entitlement Card for proof of age. For more information visit young.scot/card

3. I lost my Young Scot card, can I use this as replacement?

You can use the digital card for show and go discounts in stores across Scotland, however if you need a card for free bus travel or proof of age, you will need to order a replacement. If you have already linked your card to the Young Scot app and if your personal details haven‘t changed, this is a simple process that can be completed directly through the Young Scot app. You can do this by heading to your home screen. Click on ‘Need a replacement card?’ and follow the steps to order a new card. If you had free bus travel on your card, this will also be on your replacement. Please allow 10 working days for your card to arrive.

4. How can I access cashless catering and other local products on my Young Scot National Entitlement card?

If you need support to access products such as cashless catering or a local transport ticket, please speak with your local authority for more information. You can find their details by visiting young.scot/card

5. My favourite store doesn’t have a discount, why?

We are always keen to expand our discounts across Scotland – please share your ideas with us.

6. Can I access the Young Carers Package on the app?

Yes! You can apply for the Young Carers Package on the ‘For you’ page. If you already have access to the package, this will appear when you click on Young Carers Package.

7. What happens to my digital card if I order a new Young Scot National Entitlement Card?

When your new card has been dispatched, your digital card number will automatically update. For more information visit young.scot/card  

8. How do I use the app to redeem discounts in person?

There are two ways you can access in-store discounts with the app:

  • When you are in the store, click on ‘Digital card’ and show it to the retail staff at the till.
  • Find the retailer using the map or search function and click ‘Redeem in store’ – this will bring up your digital card to show at the till.

9. How do I update the photo on my card?

Head to young.scot/card to find information about replacing your card.

10. What are you using my personal information for?

When you sign up for the app, we will send you a monthly newsletter with the latest information on discounts and new opportunities. You can opt out of this at any time. You can also opt out of push notifications in the app by heading to the ‘more’ section.
