Meet the Glasgow Life Team – Jamie

Hi! I’m Jamie Shields. I’m a Libraries and Communities Officer for Glasgow Life.

I work in the South West of the city, covering the Cardonald, Pollok and Newlands/Auldburn wards. Over the years, I have enjoyed working with hard-to-reach young people and started the Crossroads project in conjunction with the police, which involved visiting the Polmont young offender’s prison and trying to reduce the risk of them getting into trouble with the criminal justice system.

How long have you worked for Glasgow Life?

I’ve worked for Glasgow Life for over 30 years. Before that, I was a swimming coach and a motor mechanic.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

I have enjoyed being involved in youth exchanges in Britian Europe and Africa. I love meeting young people from all over the world and seeing what things they have in common, and what the differences there are between them and the young people living in Glasgow.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

Over the years, I have run two marathons and countless half-marathons.
