Four Tips for Being Safe on Social Media

Social media is such a big part of our lives – so it’s important to make sure we stay safe. Here are four quick tips to make sure that you keep you and your information secure.

  1. Know who you’re talking to. Only add people that you’ve actually met on Facebook. Keep your Snapchat to friends and family only. You should only let your followers on Twitter and Instagram message you.
  2. Think before you post or share anything. Try and think about the people who could potentially see what you’ve posted. For example if you have your manager at work on social media, you may want to avoid posting an inappropriate image that may get you in trouble or fired.
  3. Avoid posting too much personal information. Consider not including your real name as your username wherever you can and avoid posting details about your family, your email address, your phone number and any other personal details.
  4. Keep things private. Avoid sharing your Whatsapp, Snapchat or Discord details to strangers on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok or Facebook. You don’t know who could be adding you.
