Four Tips for Being Safe on Social Media

Social media is such a big part of our lives – so it’s important to make sure we stay safe. Here are our top tips to make sure that you keep you and your information secure.

  1. Know who you’re talking to. Only add people that you’ve actually met on Facebook. And keep your Snapchat to friends and family only. You should also only let your followers on Twitter and Instagram message you.
  2. Think before you post or share anything. Try and think about the people who could potentially see what you’ve posted. For example if you have your manager at work on Facebook, you may want to avoid posting an inappropriate image that may get you in trouble or fired.
  3. Avoid posting too much personal information. Use nicknames wherever you can and avoid posting details about your family, your email address and your phone number.
  4. Keep it private. Avoid sharing your Whatsapp, Snapchat or Skype details to strangers on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok or Facebook, as you don’t know who could be adding you.
