The Create18 Fund, powered by Young Scot on behalf of EventScotland provides young people in Scotland aged 8 – 26 with the opportunity to celebrate and engage in the Year of Young People 2018 by staging their own unique event that will showcase their talents and abilities in their own communities across the country.

£52,000 will be distributed to groups all over the country and from fashion shows to community Lego Build days, there's something for everyone.

The funding is distributed by a panel of representatives from Young Scot, Communic18, EventScotland, Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government.

HIPY Committee

Location: South Lanarkshire
Event Date: August 2018

The planning group will invite teams of young people from local youth projects to take part in a fun team challenge day promoting healthy living. The day will be an ‘it’s a knockout’ style event, with teams of young people taking part in fun activities and challenges to gain points for their team, activities will include a mix of both physical & mental challenges to allow everyone to take part and use their skills, while promoting health and well-being.  The team will also have an information zone, and will invite a variety of local health providers to come along and promote their services and information to both participants and members of the public. The team will provide participants with healthy food and snacks throughout the day to promote healthy eating. 

MYDG Girls Group

Location: City of Edinburgh
Event Date: July/August 2018

The team are planning a community fun day where local youth and adults can come together and for a positive day. The Funday will include inflatables, a BBQ, face painting, as well as an information station about the local area and what opportunities are around for people. There will also be a tea and coffee tent that will have baking that people from the local area can donate for people to taste. This is so that all generations can come together and get to talk to each other. 

Methilhill Community Children’s Initiative

Location: Fife
Event Date: 11th August, 2018

We will be having an Open Day on the 11th August 2018. This will include pony rides, bouncy castle, animal man petting Zoo, face painting, glitter tattoos, BBQ, Bake stall and many more. Everyone is welcome.

Volunteer Glasgow: Media Masters

Location: Glasgow
Event Date: 18/08/2018

The team are arranging a 6-month photography exhibition culminating in a 3-day photo exhibition in the heart of Glasgow City Centre with the theme ‘Volunteers of Glasgow – Year of Young People’. 

The exhibition will feature young people of Glasgow (8 – 25 years old) who have agreed to share their stories of volunteering and the impact it has made in their lives. Brandon Stanton’s ‘Humans of New York’ inspired the concept for the photo exhibition. In the run up to August 2018, the Media Masters will be engaging with organisations that have young volunteers. They will record their stories through interviews and photos, which will be displayed for the public to see. The projects will offer full creative freedom to its contributors, so the final exhibition could include still-life photos, candid photos, or even selfies. Find out more about this event here.

Krikshaws Youth Group

Location: North Lanarkshire
Event Date: 25/08/2018

The team are running a Community Youth Event, which will provide opportunities to access a variety of engaging activities including: Healthy Lifestyle Choices (alcohol free cocktails, healthy eating), Music Activities, Sports Activities (Climbing Wall, Golf, etc.) Diversionary Workshops (Landed, Community Police) and to promote and showcase young people within our community. There will be input from other agencies including NLC, Active Schools, NHS, Community Police, ASDA, Landed etc. to support the day. 

This community youth event will also be used as a consultation process giving the team an opportunity to engage with other young people within the local community and wider areas to identify their needs and interests which will be reported back to youth groups and workers to help shape future activities. Foxbar Youth Centre 

Location: Renfrewshire
Event Date: 25/08/18

Foxbar senior youth group will hold an open day in their local youth centre. The youth centre is used by a variety of different groups, and this event will allow them to interact and engage in a vibrant and meaningful way. 
Activities will include DJ workshops, face painting, bird boxes jewellery making and arts and crafts. In the nearby park, there will be organised team game such as: parachute games, rounders, giant jenga and an obstacle course. As this event will take place during the summer break, make your own Mocktail workshop will be also available. There will also be light refreshments such as tea, coffee and a barbeque and on the day.

Talent Show Scouts

Location: Orkney
Event Date: 30/08/2018

The talent show scouts are holding a youth concert to showcase the talents of young people across Orkney through music, song, dance, drama, circus skills, poetry and storytelling. Some of the acts, particularly the drama, storytelling and the occasional song will be based around the culture and heritage of the islands and how young people impact on, feature and contribute to Orkney's communities. 

Clydesdale Area Youth Council

Location: South Lanarkshire
Event Date: 03/09/2018

The team are organising a Rural Youth Summit, entirely run and decided on by young people, including youth councillors, volunteers from local youth groups and uniformed organisations. The event will bring everyone together at a central point where they can find out through a youth themed market place, various opportunities that they can get involved in as young people living in a rural area. 

The market place will showcase local youth groups, organisations including, uniformed organisations, voluntary opportunities for young people to participate in or join youth organisations. This will also give parents and older members of the community opportunities to find out more information about how to get young people involved. 

The team will also have rooms where the local MSYP/Youth Councillors will be available to listen to the issues and concerns that the young people face within their community in a safe and welcoming environment as well as given the opportunity to be involved in the decision making that affects them by becoming part of their local area youth council. 

The team will also offer youth themed activities/entertainment throughout the afternoon with the view to making this a fun day as well as being informative. This will be covered by inviting South Lanarkshire’s Youth Learning Service partners along to the event to promote and showcase the various activities that they provide.

Monikie Eco Team

Location: Angus
Event Date: 07/09/2018

The team are organising a mini-highland games event for all ages. Sporting events may include: Tossing the caber, Hurling the wellie, Tug O’War, Sack race, Three-legged race and various other races. There will a variety of entertainment activities such as pony riding, a dog show, highland dancing, bagpipes playing and a bouncy castle. The event will also include stalls such as lucky dip, guess the number of marbles in a jar, raffle, tattoos and face painting. The games will be used to raise funds for green improvements and initiatives. 

Stranger Games

Location: Glasgow City 
Event Date: 08/09/2018

The team plan to hold a large-scale Board Games day in which we not only invite the public to come play games for the day but where they can also showcase the young talent within the area. Throughout the day the day there will be young people demonstrating their artistic talents through performance, but the team also want to use the board games to show the creativity of young people through various conversation/skill-based games. They want to have classics from Battleships to modern games such as Superhero Fights that teach tactical thinking or how to debate in a respectful yet creative way. Find out more here. 

Purple Bees

Location: East Ayrshire
Event Date: 08/09/2018

The Purple Bees will run a day event for the whole community that includes deaf children, young people, their families, friends and people in both the hearing and deaf communities. We will run lots of fun activities like drama and sports workshops on things like deaf awareness, anti-bullying and British Sign Language. Activities will be led by deaf young people and deaf adults who will be positive Deaf Role Models showing that deaf people can achieve anything they want to. We will celebrate the great things that deaf young people have achieved, like taking part in the Deaflympics, and they will give talks to inspire people and answer their questions. We will also provide information and advice about training, employment and careers for deaf young people and information stalls ran by local professionals and organisations that can help young people. The National Deaf Children’s Society’s Roadshow Bus will be at the event so people can talk to them and try out the latest technology for deaf children and young people. The event will bring everyone together to promote friendships and understanding between the deaf and hearing communities in Ayrshire. 

Edinburgh Young Ambassadors 

Location: City of Edinburgh

The team intends to hold an event where members of the public can drop into the meadows and try out a variety of sports with professional trainers. All ages are welcome to this day to promote positive health and well-being in a fun and inclusive way


Location: Inverclyde
Event Date: 16/09/2018

Four generations, from nursery age to the elderly, will be working together to share music and performance at this event. 
Young people and adults will work with nursery children and the elderly in a series of workshops teaching them music and songs. Young people will have the opportunity to plan, perform, teach and assist in workshop delivery for both the nursery and the care home. These workshops will then culminate in a performance in the community centre where the different groups will come together to host an event for the local community. The group will work with the different generational groups to help them share experiences, adding a feeling of enthusiasm and rejuvenation to both groups. Find out more about this event here.

Milngavie and Bearsden Amateur Swimming Club

Location: East Dunbartonshire
Event Date: September 2018

The team are on a mission to make swimming “cooler”. They plan to run a Samba Swim Meet, where the lights are dimmed, the spotlights are on and the music is loud! Starting the race will involve lights (not a starting gun), music will change based on the teams doing well and the atmosphere will be relaxed and fun. Spectators and participants from the whole community are welcome.  

Ochill Youths Community Improvement

Location: Clackmannanshire
Event Date: September 2018

The team is hosting a physical & mental challenge event using several different activities for families or groups to sign up to. Each group must include a range of ages from age 8 upwards and must include at least one adult. There will be a range of activities and each team member must take part in at least one – so there will be non-physical activities e.g. a quiz or a logic challenge so that anyone with physical accessibility issues can still take part, and there will be physical challenges e.g. inflatable assault course.

Team DC - Dunblane

Location: Stirling
Event Date: 23/09/18

Team DC are planning a takeover of an annual community event, the Dunblane Centre fun day. The event will be bigger and better than ever, with new attractions including inflatables, a portable climbing wall and an activity bus. 

The event will also have stalls which showcase some of the activities that the Dunblane Centre offers, including hands-on science experiments, Lego building challenges, an inflatable tumbling track, badminton challenges, and art sessions. The day will provide an opportunity for young people to have taster sessions of classes and activities. 

The day will have displays from young people involved in activities at the Dunblane Centre and performances from the Dunblane Centre Youth Performing Arts Programme. These will include singing, dancing, aerial skills and martial arts, and a ‘flash mob’ from the Senior Choir.  

Purple Dragons

Location: Dundee
Event Date: 22/09/2018

The Purple Dragons will be hosting a youth-friendly zone as part of Dundee’s Pride event. This will provide a safe space for LGBTI Young people to come together, while also showcasing LGBTI Young people’s talents through performance, art and storytelling. The event will also signpost young people to different opportunities and services, as well as providing fun/relaxation activities such as a hygge zone, a makeup section, and many others. 

Coisir Og Loch Alainn 

Location: Highland
Event Date: 11/10/18

The team will be holding a concert in our local village hall to showcase our songs and poems that we have been learning all year to the local community. All ages are welcome to come along and see how much hard work the talented young singers have put in. The event will include refreshments and is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate youth involvement in music and culture.

Barra Youth Events

Location: Western Isles
Event date: October 2018

The team have planned an entire day full of events for the whole island to participate in, with young people at its heart. This day would consist of a half day fishing trip followed by a cookery class using the fish caught, which the whole community could join in on. 

The day would end with an intergenerational celebratory event, with local musicians, young people and other members of the community coming together to celebrate the day.

Ignite Youth

Location: Perth and Kinross
Event Date: October 2018

Our event will have a speed-dating style get-to-know-you section, followed by a quiz which includes questions about the people you have spent the night conversing with. There will be snacks throughout and prizes for the people who get the most questions correct. There will also be an opportunity for different generations to show their talents. 

Irvine Neighbourhood Youth Forum

Location: North Ayrshire
Event Date: 22nd - 30th October 2018

The team are going to design a spooky tour in Irvine Town centre which will be about the historical old town of Irvine. This event will take people back to the medieval days of Irvine with stories about witches and facts about Robert Burns, Mary Queen of Scots and other historical figures who lived in the town. Young team members will dress up as these characters from history for a “scary” tour, scaring groups of the public who come along. There will be a tour guide booklet for the people with information on the route and interesting facts on the horrible historical stories that are being presented. 

Fab Fifers

Location: Fife
Event Date: October 2018

The team is organising a ‘Try something new day’ for the local community. The event will involve inviting people with skills and talents in the fields of music, sport, language, food and culture to share their skill with others. Skill sharers will be a variety of ages to promote understanding, communication and respect through the generations.  The event will be set up as a Fayre, with the different activities based at stalls around the hall. Activities which require more space will be staggered throughout the day. The ‘Try something new day’ will aim to include: Gymnastics, Martial Arts, Learning a musical instrument, chocolate making, crafts, learning a language, meditation, circus skills, archery, yoga and Makaton.

RYA Doers

Location: Glasgow
Event Date: October 2018

The event will consist of a colour run involving the local communities and local schools. The day will promote healthy eating/drinking choices and will also include stalls from other community organisations and groups.

John Muir Group

Location: West Lothian
Event Date: October 2018

This Halloween event has two parts: the first, in the afternoon, is aimed at younger children and families who want to enjoy spooky fun, in an exciting, outdoor, wildlife rich setting, with trails, fairy doors and scavenger hunts. The second, evening event is aimed at older children and their families, and has a scarier element, designed to spook audiences in the woods at night. 

St Dominic's Eco Crew

Location: Perth and Kinross
Event Date: October 2018

The team would like to celebrate the dark autumn nights by bringing a family friendly light procession to our local community. Young people will design lanterns with support from the community and members of a local care home, before parading the lights through the town. 

Linwood S6 Leadership Team

Location: Renfrewshire

Event Date: 12/10/2018

Next Generation will be a day where musical, art, dance and participation workshops are organised for primary school children. The day would culminate with a concert showcasing all the creative talents of the pupils, attended by parents, the local community and care home residents. The event is intended to unite the community and give them something to feel proud about while inspiring primary school children to play more instruments when they come up to high school and to get involved in the arts. 

Nairn Youth Forum

Location: Highland
Event Date: October 2018

The team aims to run a one-day music festival in Nairn Community Centre which will raise awareness of the Year of Young People 2018 while showcasing the talents of young people in Nairn and surrounding areas. The public will be welcome to attend as well, to celebrate young people’s contribution to musical culture.

One Giant Leap Lanarkshire

Location: South Lanarkshire
Event Date: 27th October, 2018

One Giant Leap down memory lane is an event that aims to increase intergenerational understanding. The main objective is to create memory boxes to stimulate older participants memories from yesteryear and hopefully reach out to people who have memory loss conditions such as Alzheimer and dementia. The team will invest time in researching the specific decades and add various objects such as old photos, foods i.e. sweets, smells that will bring back memories i.e. soaps, home baking, coal, touch and vintage DVD footage. The memory boxes will ultimately be showcased at tea afternoons for members of the community.

West Dunbartonshire Youth Alliance: Young Leaders

Location: West Dunbartonshire
Event Date: October/November

The team plan to run a series of showcase nights across West Dunbartonshire Libraries which will provide a series of opportunities for young people to express themselves through a night of culture. 

The showcase nights will be in an open-mic style so that all members of the various communities can skill and talent share. 

The events will be entirely free and open to all members of the public. During the break of each showcase night a YOYP themed consultation will be run with the audience, to find out what matters to them so they can have their views heard and acted upon.


Location: Argyll & Bute
Event Date: Friday 9th November, 2018

Wings plan to organise a ceilidh that will take place in the Argyllshire Gathering Halls and include a ceilidh band, highland dancers and a DJ. This combination is intended to ensure that all age groups are entertained while showcasing local talent. The ceilidh will have an ‘under the sea’ theme where guests will be encouraged to dress up. 

Prior to the event the team are holding a competition asking all swimmers to design a ticket for the ceilidh, which will be open to all club members. The winning ticket will be chosen by the committee and will be used as the official ticket. This helps to involve all children currently in the club and increase publicity to the club. We also plan on having a raffle to raise extra funds which will be run at the ceilidh, there will also be a photo-booth with a small charge for photographs.

Speyside Arts And Crafts Club

Location: Moray
Event Date: 1st November, 2018 to 11th November, 2018

Speyside Artybition is a local exhibition of the artwork completed by a local group of young artists who attend a weekly art group. They will be exhibiting their works, which show their learning, progression and their individual flair and competencies.

Twist and Hit

Location: Renfrewshire

Workshop comprising of fun activities, games, drills and skills, disability training awareness and confidence building.

Lanark UC Expressive Arts Group (postponed)

Location: South Lanarkshire
Event Date: postponed until further notice

The young people in Lanark Universal Connections (The UC), have been regularly attending and participating in expressive arts groups, and wanted to create an opportunity for young people to showcase their skills. Therefore, they are organising a community event to showcase the talent of the young people in Lanark and surrounding area by hosting a variety show with solo and group music and dance acts in Lanark Memorial Hall. Young people from various partner organisations will be invited to participate as well.  

Paisley Care's Got Talent 

Location: Renfrewshire 
Event Date: Thursday 29th November, 2018

The team are going to organise a talent show to showcase the many skills and abilities of care experienced young people. They will showcase musical, variety, dance and creative talents, aiming to increase awareness of care-experienced young people’s skills and to celebrate YoYP 2018.

Buckie Area Youth Groups

Location: Moray

The team will be combining a winter market stocked with local crafts, and a celebratory ceilidh to mark the Year of Young People 2018. One Giant Leap Dundee

Location: Dundee
Event Date: Saturday 15th December

One Giant Leap have decided to make a film that tells our story and our experiences in the transition period out of education. The film will use a combination of live footage and animation using arts and crafts materials. The event will be a public showing of the film to other young people, families, carers and support staff, teachers and social workers and anyone else who wants to come to see it. This is a real opportunity to highlight some of the challenges and opportunities that young people are presented with as they transition out of school and other support structures.

Renfrewshire Youth Commission 

Location: Renfrewshire
Event Date: December 2018

This conference will include mental health professionals, representatives, youth Workers and young people to perform and speak about mental health. The Youth Commissioners and young people will inform the professionals about the gaps in services using games and activities that will ensure this is accomplished in a fun way. During the day young people will be able to get information and help so that they know where to go and how to deal with their own mental health. Professionals will be asked to attend and work with young people to ensure they are delivering services relevant to them and meets the needs of the young people they work with. 
In the evening we will hold a live music event where young people will perform. We will ask young people to play music and sing and also arrange a DJ. This will allow young people to showcase their talents and offer opportunities they may not have had in the past. We will also run a non-alcoholic bar selling mocktails using a Youth Commission theme.
