An adventure sports programme for young disabled people and their siblings to give them new opportunities to learn new skills, have fun and allow them to make friendships based on shared interests.  We will offer 10 x 3 hour sessions across the year.

This funding will be used to provide a range of issue based and skills based sessions in the local community for young people and young parents.  This will include leadership training and opportunities to participate in accreditation.  We will also organise a fun day during the summer for local young people to celebrate year of young people within their own community.

To develop young leaders and coaches skills and qualifications to allow them to deliver free sports session afterschool and within local primary schools and communities.  This funding will also be used to support the local netball team.

To offer a calendar of trips and cultural experiences for young people in the local community to visit local tourist attractions and develop an appreciation of the region.  The young people will develop a tour guide resource from a young person’s perspective while working towards achieving a youth award for their participation.

To increase the number of competitive sport opportunities for young people across the region.  Young people will be offered the opportunity to develop their volunteering, coaching and leadership skills therefore developing opportunities at a local level and will act as ambassadors across the region.

To offer free transport to Young People in Wigtownshire and Stewartry to participate in youthbeatz events and the youtbeatz festival during 2018.  Poor public transport links prevents young people fully participating in the wider range of experiences and opportunities that available to young people during youthbeatz.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Leadership Training

We are going to run a national event that will bring together 150 young people from every local authority area to take part in a 5 day celebration and leadership event. We'll be putting together an exciting programme that will energise young people involved in their local community that will also give training and taster sessions for the young people attending. There will be workshops, outdoor activities, team based activities, music, arts, well-being activities and discovering the outdoor spaces Scotland has to offer. The training will help develop young people's leadership skills while having fun with others who have similar values.

Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival

Traditional Music workshops

Opportunities for young people aged 8 – 25 to participate in workshops to develop their skills in traditional dance and music. Including drumming, photography, whistle, mandolin, fiddle and highland dancing. Funding would also ensure free entry at the Newton Stewart Scottish Highland dance competition.
