OPPORTUNITY: Apply to Join the Young Scot Youth Loneliness Panel

Young Scot Hive (#YSHive) is looking for around 15 young people to volunteer on the Young Scot Youth Loneliness Panel. This Panel will be a diverse group from across Scotland aged 11 to 24 inclusive, who have a keen interest or are passionate about tackling Youth Loneliness in Scotland.

The Panel will collaborate with Scottish Government, Local Authorities and Third Sector Partners to support implementation of the Panels recommendations whether this be online or engaging in existing local services. The Panel will also develop and create online content that is created by young people for young people to help combat Youth Loneliness in an effective way. This content will be hosted on the new Loneliness campaign page.

Volunteering with Young Scot

A dedicated Young Scot staff member will support you throughout your volunteering experience.

No special knowledge, experience or skills are necessary to take part. We are happy to make reasonable adjustments to enable all young people to take part, and there will be an opportunity when you apply to tell us about any support or adjustments you need to contribute fully.

We are happy to make reasonable adjustments based on your needs to enable you to attend. We are particularly interested to collaborate with young people who are more at risk of experiencing barriers due to their personal circumstances including BAME young people, disabled young   people, young carers, care-experienced young people, and young people who live in low-income households.

We will ensure we are a safe and trusted place for you to volunteer. We do not accept any form of discrimination or prejudice to anyone on our volunteering projects based on your life experience, background, culture, or identity. This includes age, disability, gender identity, parenting and caring responsibilities, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

What will you do on the Youth Loneliness Panel?

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this project will take place online for the foreseeable future. However, we understand getting online can be difficult, so please still apply if you have limited access as we can support you with alternative arrangements.

We will work together to create a supportive and inclusive team, with opportunities to learn a range of skills, meet new people from across Scotland, take part in training, and develop confidence in yourself.

Supported by Young Scot staff, volunteers will meet monthly (online using Zoom) to develop and produce online content that is created by young people for young people to help combat Youth Loneliness in an effective way. You will also engage with local authorities to explore how to progress recommendations within Recommendations & Actions Report from phase two of the Youth Loneliness Project.

Using the #YSHive process we will support you to engage with partners and co-design a ‚ÄėNational Youth Loneliness Approach‚Äô to support young people‚Äôs wellbeing and tackle loneliness and isolation. This will involve you working together with other young people, the Scottish Government, local authorities and third sector partners to consider the needs of different communities and groups of young people

As a #YSHive volunteer you will sometimes be invited to join extra workshops and activities with Young Scot on different topics, but these are optional.

Next steps

After you‚Äôve¬†applied,¬†we will invite you along to a¬†Taster & Selection¬†Workshop on Zoom¬†on¬†Thursday 28th October, 5pm ‚Äď 7pm This is to give you a taste of what¬†volunteering¬†with #YSHive¬†might be like, and for us to meet¬†you.¬†¬†If you can‚Äôt attend for any reason, we will arrange a phone or video call with you.¬†¬†

If we have more applicants than there are spots on the Panel, we will also reflect on how things went at the Taster & Selection Session to make a decision about who to invite to join Young Scot Youth Loneliness Panel.
