About the Youth Loneliness Panel

With your project team, you’ll support and engage other young people to understand what Youth Loneliness is and create ideas to help provide support needed to tackle this issue. The panel will be developing a set of actions and recommendations of what needs to happen to ensure Youth Loneliness is being addressed in Scotland. You will also take the lead in designing online events where good practice and learning can be shared around tackling Youth Loneliness. There will be lots of opportunities to design online content aimed at supporting and highlighting the issue of Youth Loneliness.

We are recruiting for around 15 young people to join the Young Scot Youth Loneliness Panel. You’ll be working with current volunteers to identify important issues for young people around Youth Loneliness and work together to come up with new ideas, innovations, and recommendations for tackling Youth Loneliness in Scotland!

With young people across Scotland feeling the impact COVID-19 has had on them, their families, and communities, it is more important now than ever that young people feel supported and have the right information to tackle Youth Loneliness.

No previous experience or knowledge is necessary. We use a co-design process to empower young people to lead and develop the project. Training and support throughout the process will be provided, including access to a Young Scot Staff member to support you. We are happy to make reasonable adjustments based on your needs throughout the process.

The Young Scot Hive Process. First is to explore, then create, then disrupt and finally act.

We will ensure we are a safe and trusted place for you to volunteer. We do not accept any form of discrimination or prejudice to anyone on our volunteering projects based on your life experience, background, culture, or identity. This includes age, disability, gender identity, parenting, and caring responsibilities, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this project will take place online for the foreseeable future. However, we understand getting online can be difficult, so please still apply if you have limited access as we can support you with alternative arrangements.

If you would like to be part of the Youth Loneliness Panel, then you can apply online or using the application form below.

This application form is alternatively available as a word document downloaded here and we will also accept verbal applications made using video or voice recording over the phone. We’re happy to make reasonable adjustments and provide other additional support to help you apply. Please contact YSHive@young.scot to arrange this.

Questions in the application form:

  1. Details about you
  2. Why do you want to volunteer?
  3. What skills you can bring?

What happens next

We will review all applications with Young Scot staff and current YS Volunteers. We will host a Selection Session on Tuesday 6th October 5pm – 7:30pm. This is to give you a taster of what volunteering might be like, and for us to meet get to know you. If you can’t attend, we will arrange a phone or video call with you. After the Selection Day, we will make a decision and you will be notified shortly after.

If you have any questions you can contact the Young Scot team by email at YSHive@young.scot
