About the Scotland 365 Youth Engagement Team
Scotland 365 is supportedby the National Lottery Heritage Fund, 'Kick the Dust' to enable NMS to transform the way the way they engage and collaborate with young people. The project is also working with a range of other organisations including Project Scotland, Impact Arts and others.
You don’t need to have any special experience, knowledge or skills in heritage, history or museums to take part.
You will work with NMS staff on a series of projects including improving visitor experiences, developing creative digitial projects and collections, creating marketing campaigns and events, engaging with other organisations in the sector, and developing a Youth Engagement Strategy.

What you'll do as a volunteer on this project
By volunteering on Scotland 365, you will be empowered to engage and work with NMS across a range of projects. You will have the choice to work on the projects based on your interests, experience, and skills - whether you have them already, or want to develop them!
You will also work with an evaluation organisation to review progress, and share learning and ideas in response to key issues identified to ensure the needs of young people are at the heart of the legacy of Scotland 365.
Joining this project, you will access opportunities to develop a range of skills, meet new people from across Scotland, take part in training, and develop professional confidence in yourself.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a mix of experience and interests, across the following four groups, created from the research we gathered with over 500 young people:
- Culture Seeker – you are interested in heritage and a museum person
- Connection Seeker – you are interested in heritage but not a museum person
- Entertainment Seeker – you are a museum person but not interested in heritage
- Inspiration Seeker – you are not normally interested in heritage and not normally a museum person
Within these categories, we recognise that is particularly important to collaborate with young people who are likely to experience additional barriers due to your identity, culture and/or life experience. We want to ensure that we support volunteers who are Black, Asian and/or from ethnic minorities; disabled young people; LGBTQ+ young people;those from a low-income household; caring for a friend/family member; and/or are care-experienced.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this project will take place online for the foreseeable future. However, we understand getting online can be difficult, so please still apply if you have limited access as we can support you with alternative arrangements.
The team will meet monthly for workshops with us and NMS, where you will take part in small group activities and discussions. You will also have time with key staff to progress the projects you have chosen to work on together (as mentioned above). We will also expect volunteers to contribute regularly on the project space on Basecamp to prepare for meetings and feedback on sessions.
If and when possible, later in 2021 we will seek to arrange a full weekend residential to work together and socialise in person. Dependant on COVID-19 restrictions, we hope there will be opportunities for small group visits to NMS sites too.
As a #YSHive volunteer you will sometimes be invited to join extra workshops and activities with Young Scot on different topics, but these are optional.
If you would like to be part of The Scotland 365 Youth Engagement Team, then you can apply online via Alchemer.
You can also download the Microsoft Word Application Form which can be emailed to YSHive@young.scot once complete.
