Volunteer with Raleigh for a Summer of Action in Scotland!

Raleigh International is looking for 100 volunteers aged 18-24 to join their first UK programme, Re:Green!

Please note, there are a small number of heavily discounted places if you are a Young Scot Cardholder.

About Re:Green

Re:Green aims to rewild, reforest and restore Scotland's rainforest and ancient woodlands. Scotland's rainforest only has 30,000 square hectares remaining. Raleigh International is looking for passionate young people to work with the Alliance for Scotland's Rainforest and help Re:Green one of the UK's most precious habitats.

The roles 

Become a Conservationist:

  • Volunteer on the frontline¬†
  • Take on essential work to conserve and restore the Scottish rainforest and other ancient woodlands
  • Support the removal of invasive plant species, restoration, rewilding green spaces, tree planting, reforestation, trail maintenance, and habitat and wildlife monitoring

Become a Climate Campaigner:

  • Learn more about sustainability and environmental action in the UK with the crash course on climate campaigning
  • Gain the base knowledge that you'll need to conserve our natural world¬†
  • Develop a strong grounding in environmental action¬†
  • This role comes with an opportunity to be enrolled into¬†Raleigh's International Climate Campaign - Action Not Excuses

Take on the Youth Leadership Challenge:

  • Take on some of the UK's most challenging but beautiful terrains on an 11-day remote trek, wild camping in the Scottish Highlands¬†
  • Learn essential skills in leadership, teamwork, planning, problem-solving, and resilience with your fellow team of young volunteers.¬†

Fundraising targets

Each of the roles require individuals to fundraise their placement.

2-week Re:Green (Conservation & Climate Campaign project)

  • ¬£95 for Young Scot Cardholders through the Young and Green Fund¬†

4-week Re:Green (Conservation, Climate Campaign & Youth Leadership Challenge)

  • ¬£150 for Young Scot Cardholders through the Young and Green Fund¬†

Re:Green Young & Green Fund

Apply for the Young & Green fund to receive a massive discount on the Re:Green fundraising target.

Once a volunteer submits their application they will receive an invitation to join Raleigh International's online learning platform called MyRaleigh. This provides lots of information about fundraising including links to blogs on fundraising, videos of successful fundraising from past volunteers and a Fundraising Guide. Volunteers will also be connected with the Volunteer Journey Team at Raleigh International who will be able to support you with advice, tips and materials so that you can reach your target.

If you apply to be a volunteer, you can also enter to win a Duke of Edinburgh approved Vango backpack. You'll receive your points code in an email from Raleigh International after you submit your application. Redeem your points and you will automatically be entered to win.

All Young Scot cardholders can apply for the Young & Green fund to receive a massive discount on the Re:Green fundraising target.

Re:Green Access Fund

If you need financial assistance, the Re:Green Access Fund can help you out.

Here are the conditions:

  • Participants must live in a household income earning ¬£23,000 or less, or between ¬£23,000 and ¬£30,000 meeting the required criteria.
  • Raleigh International will cover¬†all the costs for Re:Green including all food, transport and accommodation so no fundraising will be necessary.
  • You will need to provide your own personal clothes, but Raleigh International will support you with any missing kit.
  • The deadline to apply is 13th August 2021.

Other fundraising

If you aren't eligible for either the Young and Green or Access Fund, you can still apply to be part of Re:Green. Participants are expected to raise money for their placement, find out more below.

2-week Re:Green (Conservation & Climate Campaign project)

  • fundraising target of ¬£1,095 (¬£875 if you're amongst the first 100 sign-ups)

4-week Re:Green (Conservation, Climate Campaign & Youth Leadership Challenge)

  • fundraising target of ¬£1,995 (¬£1,595 if you're amongst the first 100 sign-ups)

This will include your food, accommodation, transport throughout the programme, project and safety equipment. 

This will not include your travel to and from the Re:Green or personal kit. Raleigh will organise a bus, with pick up and drop offs at London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow (central locations).
