intandem, Scotland’s mentoring programme for young people, brings together vulnerable young people with a volunteer mentor to build a consistent and trusting relationship, and improve their chances in life. Y Sort It is funded by Inspiring Scotland to deliver the intandem programme in West Dunbartonshire
intandem aims to promote the wellbeing of each and every child who is matched with a mentor. All of the young people who are referred into the service are between the ages of 8 and 14 and on a Compulsory Supervision Order, i.e. looked after at home and living with parent(s) or legal guardian.
The focus in every mentoring relationship is on developing the child or young person, recognising and building their strengths, and providing support and encouragement to deal with difficult and challenging situations in their lives.
The key outcomes that are looked for are:
- Increased self-confidence
- Increase self-esteem
- Broader social networks / More positive social relationships
- More engaged with the local community
- Reduced isolation
