Stirling's Summer Youthie in the Hoosie Week 2 - Recipes

This week we are kicking off with some easy recipes for you to try over the week.

Simple Smartie Cookies

50g Butter or Marg

100g Sugar

150g Plain Flour

Tube of Smarties


Preheat the over for 10 mins

Mix all together 

Form wee balls and then place on baking tray

Flatten slightly with a fork and bake for 15 mins at 160*


Sugar Cookies

Pre heat the over for 10 mins

125g Butter

125g Caster Sugar (Little extra for sprinkling)

1 Medium egg

1 tsp Vanilla Essence

250g Plain Flour


Mix all together until you form a ball.

Roll out and cut out your cookies with approx 1/2cm thickness

Bake for 10-15 mins at 180*

Let them cool and sprinkle caster sugar on top



Pre heat the over for 15 mins

110g soft butter or margarine

110g Caster Sugar

2 Eggs

1 tsp Vanilla Essence

110g Plain Flour

1 tsp Baking Powder


Mix the sugar and butter until creamy, then add the vanilla essence. Mix the Baking powder and flour together and sift into the mix one table spoon at a time. Add the eggs one at a time.

Place the mix into cupcake cases makes 10-12 depending on how big you like them.

Bake for 20 mins at 160* until golden - can test with toothpick to make sure, when you pierce the cake the tooth pick comes out clean with no cake batter on it.


Vanilla Sponge - School Cake


200g butter/marg

175g caster sugar

1 tsp vanilla essence

3 Eggs

200g Self Raising Flour


225g Icing Sugar

3 tblspoon water



Preheat the oven to 160* for 10-15 mins

Grease a baking tray 

Mix butter and sugar together until creamy, add vanilla and one egg at a time. Then add flour a bit at a time slowly.

Put all together into the baking tray and bake in the oven for 25 mins or until golden and no batter come off on the toothpick when testing.

Leave to cool for 15 mins.

Whilst cooling mix the water and icing sugar together and when ready pour over the sponge mix, then add the sprinkles.
