Week 6 (11 Feb) - Lauren, 18, Girvan

What is your best memory of growing up in South Ayrshire?

As a child summer was my favourite time of year so growing up in south Ayrshire my favourite memories all come from the beach and living by the coast, summer days as a child were amazing whether it be a day out to the beach which I lived 10 minutes from or even a day trip to Culzean country park, I loved having picnics there!

Tell us about your aspirations / goals?

As a young person there is a lot I want to do with my life but I haven’t quite figured out what I want to do with the rest of my life but that’s 100% acceptable and I’ll take as much time as I need to get there. However I know I would love to travel and visit all of the continents atleast once, I believe making memories that will last a life time is extremely important. In the future I would love to be an owner of a house or even a cottage somewhere in the countryside and my main goal in life is to just live a happy, healthy life!

What are your biggest achievements?

There’s a lot I’ve accomplished in my life so far that I am proud of, one of the biggest ones was being one of fifty students in the whole world to attend and graduate the United space school in Houston, Texas in the summer of 2017. I was there for atleast 14 days not including travel and I made memories and friends that will last a lifetime. I was also extremely proud and humbled by my South Ayrshire Youth Forum Member of the year award nomination for the awards in 2017, I love being apart of this group and helping and contributing as much as I can so to see it recognised just for doing something I loved to do was so lovely to see! I love the Youth Forum and everyone in it and they have all helped me so much so I must say that one of my favourite achievements is just getting to be apart of this group and getting the chance to make a difference.

What makes you proud to be a young person living in South Ayrshire?

What makes me proud to be a young person in South Ayrshire has to be all the wonderful young people within it. Everyone of them do incredible things every day. Whether it be volunteering, caring for someone or just going out of their way to make a difference they are all so wonderful! Being a young person in South Ayrshire myself it makes me happy to see that our young people are so incredible and definitely shut down the way the media will portray a young person!

If you were to pass on a message to other young people, what would your message be?

Use your voice. Your voice is the greatest thing you’ll ever use because if you have an opinion in something then you should be heard. It’s our future that’s literally in our hands so speak out and if you can try and be involved in some form of youth group that could lead to being apart of something bigger. Whether it be Scottish Youth Parliament or volunteering in a local club, everything makes a difference. So my message to our young people is to speak up, vote (if you can) when there are elections and stand up for what you believe in. Its our future!

If you could have a dinner party with a celebrity, who would it be and why?

If I could sit down with one celebrity for a dinner party it would have to be Shane Dawson. For those who don’t know who that is he’s one of my all time favourite YouTube stars of all time, I would just like to sit and tell him how his videos have genuinely made me laugh on my downest of days and I feel like we could have some really interesting conversations about conspiracy theories as that’s something that really intrigues me!
