Outdoor Academy - Play Rangers

The Outdoor Academy offers you the chance to enjoy the great outdoors!  Maybe you’ve been cooped up a lot during the lockdown restrictions and want to get to know the outside world again.  Here’s your chance to do that and pick up some new skills, make some new friends and even earn an Award. All free!  Read on to find out more and to sign up.

Whilst out and about in Renfrewshire you could:

  • Learn about nature
  • Take part in bushcraft activities
  • Find out how to properly navigate yourself while you are out and about (sounds simple but it’s a skill, trust us!)
  • Brush up on your teamwork skills
  • Become an outdoor play leader
  • Pick up a HI-5, Saltire or work towards a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

PLAY RANGERS

There are loads of ways to play outdoors!  Children need to feel safe playing in parks, open spaces and local woodland, whatever the weather.  Why not become a young outdoor play leader and help children lead their own play?  Taking part in the training sessions will prepare you for volunteering work with children and young people.  So why not become part of the fantastic Play Rangers?  It is a free 8 week programme for 11 to 18 year olds. Opportunities taking place in Johnstone and Erskine.

You will explore different ways to play using outdoor tools including ropes, cones, building materials and toys.  You will also play games and have a go at leading.  As if that wasn't already good you can also learn about using a Risk Benefit approach which means learning about and building the courage to try new and seemingly risky play like making tree swings, climbing trees, and building dens.  Most of all you'll get to meet new friends and look at being Young Leaders for future play projects.
