Why we need to eat at balanced diet
As a teenager your body is going through so many changes. Having a healthy balanced diet can help support these physical changes.
It is important that you're getting the right vitamins and minerals to allow your body to develop and grow.
Don't skip meals
If you are watching your weight you might think skipping meals is the answer, but its not. You may think by skipping meals or starving yourself that you will lose weight but you wont. Your body needs these vital vitamins and minerals to function.
Want to eat healthier without missing out?
Do you want to eat healthier but not feel like you're missing out when out with your friends?
Then why not try to swap some of the food on the menu for a healthier option? For example-
- Swap chips > baked potato
- Creamy pasta sauce > tomato based pasta sauce
- Big Mac > Hamburger
- Snickers/Mars bar > Milky Way
- Cheese & Onion crisps > Quavers/Wotsits (baked crisps are a better option)
- Burger from the burger van > a 'healthy range' sandwich.
Making swaps like these will be a much healthier choice and you won't feel like you're missing out.
What about exercise?
Healthy eating is a great way to look after your physical health, but what about your mental health? Did you know that a small amount of exercise can boost your mental health too?
Adding just a few active blocks of time into your day, for example walking rather than getting the bus, will mean you will find it easier to get active and will soon have loads more energy!
There are loads of ways to fit in a bit of exercise without even knowing you're exercising.
It all counts
- Cleaning the house or car
- Walking the dog
- Hovering the house
- Following along with a Youtube video workout
Exercise doesn't need to be competitive or hard work, its all about doing activities that you find fun.
