- 1. Try something new
Lying on the sofa thinking about home will only make you feel worse. Trying something you’ve never done before is exciting, will keep you busy and is a great way to meet new people.
- 2. Keep yourself healthy
Keeping your body healthy will keep your mind healthy too. Make sure to eat healthily in order to protect yourself from coming down with any colds or bugs, which will only make you feel worse. - 3. Accept change
You might not just be missing home, but missing who you were and the life you had when you were at home. It can be difficult to go from seeing your school friends every day to only meeting up occasionally, and you might not be able to take part in the hobbies and activities you used to. But try and see the new changes as what they are – an exciting new chapter in your life!
- 4. Keep in touch
Send friends and family from home a quick email or text, or arrange a Skype call. You don’t need to lose touch with everyone back home, and a friendly familiar face can be a great help if you're feeling a little homesick.
- 5. Get extra support
Your university will have support services available to help you out if you're feeling down. They will have lots of experience in helping students who have felt the same way, and have loads of ways to support you if you're missing home.
