Young people have the potential to make a huge difference to improving the environment through social action. To recognise the involvement of young people in green action, #iwill4nature has been launched to coincide with the 2019 #iwill campaign.
#iwill4nature aims to connect young people with the environment as well as encouraging organisations to champion the vital role that young people can play in supporting and improving the environment.
Some of the benefits of being involved in environmental social action or green action include:
- Improved health and wellbeing: Engaging in the natural world can have a huge impact on both your mental and physical health including reducing stress, fatigue, anxiety and depression.
- Increased awareness and understanding: Being involved in green action can help to develop your understanding of key environmental issues and empower you to find solutions to tackle them.
- Reduce environmental impact: By participating in green action you can become a leader in sustainability and help to influence consumer behaviour, businesses and even government policy.
Green action can include taking part in environmental volunteering such a picking up litter or planting pollinator-friendly flowers, fundraising for maintaining or enhancing green spaces or campaigning for the zero plastic waste agenda.
2020 will mark the Year of Coasts and Waters in Scotland, celebrating the remarkable coastlines and waterways that surround us. #iwill4nature is the perfect time to start thinking about what you can do to help celebrate and preserve Scotland's coasts and waters.
