Not Feeling Festive?

Are you struggling to get into the festive spirit, or feeling more like the Grinch than Buddy the Elf this year? We've got some tips for you.

Watch a Christmas film or listen to some Christmas tunes

It is hard not to feel merry when watching your favourite film or listening to a festive playlist.

Decorate the Christmas Tree

Its a task you get to do just once a year, and is guaranteed to make you feel Christmassy!

Wrap Up Some Gifts

Get into the festive spirit by wrapping up some gifts to go under your newly decorated tree. You could listen to Christmas music in the background to add to the festive vibes!

There's no Pressure to Feel Festive

There is no reason to feel bad if you're not feeling festive yet, or if you simply don't enjoy this time of year.

It may seem like there is no escaping the festivities as we're surrounded by TV adverts, music in the shops and constant chatter about Christmas - but there is never any pressure for you to feel festive or take part unless you really want to.

Instead, you could focus on the parts of this time of year that you do enjoy.

You could spend some time with your friends and family

Whether or not you enjoy the festivities, it's always nice to spend some extra time with your loved ones. 

Do Some Shopping

Shops often have offers on at this time of year, and you can always use your Young Scot discounts, so it's a perfect time to treat yourself or others. You could even do the shopping online and avoid the crowds of Christmas shoppers!

Enjoy a Hot Drink

Lots of cafes and coffee shops release a range of new hot drink flavours during the festive period. Toasted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate or Gingerbread Latte, anyone?

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is sometimes known as 'winter depression' because symptoms tend to be more apparent during the autumn and winter seasons. Symptoms can include a persistent low mood, loss of interest in everyday activities, feelings of despair, and a lack of energy. If you recognise these symptoms, and they are having an impact on your daily life then you should consider seeing your GP for advice about treating SAD.
