How to Start a Blog

If you fancy keeping the world up-to-date with what you are getting up to then you could try blogging.

Some people use blogs, not so much as a diary, but to tell everyone about their main interest such as photography, fashion, music, gaming or sport.

Your blog is personal to you, you can design it to look the way you want and write as often or as infrequently as you want to.

Starting out

There are lots of websites where you can set up your own blog for free – for example Blogger, WordPress, Tumblr, Medium - but there are lots more - take a look at what’s on offer and choose the one that best suits your needs.

If you are really keen, you could buy your own webspace and download a blogging script – but you would need to pay for the domain name and the web hosting.

Try to always be aware of what you share. Even if you upload an image and later are having second thoughts about it, choosing to delete it, that image will still be accessible and floating around the internet somewhere.

It's also best only to use images and videos that you own, in case an image you found on the web is copyrighted.

Write about what you love

Don’t just follow trends. Read different blogs to get ideas and write about what you love and about what you’d want to read. There'll most definitely be other people out there in the blogging community who love it too.

Keep it simple

Before you start you should ask yourself about what you want to write and what’s the point of your post. Read through and ask yourself again when you have finished.

Pay attention to headers

You must be informative and creative to persuade people to click on your article.

Post regularly

Try to get into a routine of posting. Will you blog daily? Weekly? Tr to be consistent so that as you gain more followers, they;ll know what to expect! Writing regularly is one of the main qualities of successful blogs.

Interact with other blogs

Comment on other posts you enjoyed or ask fellow bloggers if you can feature them on your website. Becoming friends with people who blog about similar interests will draw more readers to you and expand your connections within the blogging community.

Share it

In order to gain more followers, you should have an account on Twitter and Facebook. Social media is great for sharing your posts with your friends and followers.

The most important thing is that blogging should be fun for you and not feel like a chore!
