In this group there are many young people such as myself who volunteer their time to work with older adults on things they are interested in, such as new technology. So far we have worked with new technology learning how to use laptops, iPads, Tablets and Smartphones. As young people we are often more comfortable with new technology. However we have also undertaken art projects, baking, knitting and creative writing. People who come to the group have a one to one with someone to focus on the exact issue you may be having but we do also make time for tea, home baking and biscuits. We also learn and thing or two from the adults about making scones specifically!
Personally, I get a lot out of these groups. I am seventeen and I have developed great relationships with the older adults I talk to and have gained a lot of confidence in myself and in my own computer skills.
I have worked very closely with one of the adults, and we get on very well, this means she enjoys her time at the group very much. We have helped her work on her computer skills, family history and given her a friendly group to gossip with.
There are currently two groups meeting:
Ben Cleuch Centre, Tillicoultry. Wednesdays 2pm - 4pm
Bowmar Centre, Alloa. Thursdays 2pm - 4pm
So whether you're a young person or an older adult, interested in developing your skills around new technology or anything else?
Come along, there is a warm welcome waiting for you.
