As you may or may not know, this day, 21st March, is World Down Syndrome Day, a day to raise awareness of Down Syndrome and the well being of people who have Down Syndrome.
On this day, people all around the world celebrate these unique individuals by donning mismatched socks, to celebrate diversity and encourage people to accept those who are different.
Here is a video from the Down Syndrome Association website explaining World Down Syndrome in more depth:
TimeAndDate.com describe it as:
"World Down Syndrome Day is observed in more than 60 countries worldwide. Many organizations and communities, including the United Nations (UN) and Down Syndrome International, promote World Down Syndrome Day to raise people’s awareness and understanding of Down syndrome.
Activities and events that take place on March 21 showcase the abilities and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. These events also focus on encouraging independence, self-advocacy and freedom of choices for people with Down syndrome."
The theme of World Down Syndrome Day 2019 is "Leave no one behind". Days such as these help people to fully realise their own potential and bring about greater acceptance and unity in our world. It was wonderful to be a part of it.
