Shadow by Terri Simpson

How strange is a shadow?

A warped image, all your own

Impossible to borrow

By your side, you are never alone

It is impossible to change, cover or conceal

Real, unfiltered, attached

We're unable to alter it to increase our appeal

Stretching and bending but remaining latched

Appearing in the bright spots in your life

And disappearing in the dark

Gone when there is strife

Returning when there is a positive mark

The opposite version of yourself

Dark and reversed

A separate entity

Unable to be coerced

How strange is a shadow?
