Five Game of Thrones Theories by Ashley Pannell

Warning: SO MANY SPOILERS!

Game of Thrones is one of the most popular TV shows in the world and it's end is nearly here. With only two episodes of the final season left, I'm sharing with you some Game of Thrones theories I've encountered that I find quite intriguing.

1. Daenerys will become the Mad Queen.

Now, at the start of the series, this seemed very impossible, as Dany was a sweet girl who looked for the best in people and tried to defend the innocent. But recently, Dany's proven to have a bit of a cruel streak, one example of this being she burned two Tarlys alive. She clearly doesn't shy away from brutality and we see her father in her, as the Mad King also burned all those disloyal to him. She also seems to be unwilling to share or give up the throne to Jon, who has the stronger claim to the throne as he is the only living son of the eldest of Aerys' children.

I personally believe this is the most likely outcome for our beloved Dragon Queen. Although it would be very disappointing and disheartening to see the girl we've been rooting for since the beginning fall to madness, it's the kind of ending which fits in most with Game of Thrones, as it is so full of tragedy and rage that it makes us want to wish for something else (cough, cough, Red Wedding).

2. Jon will sacrifice himself for the Princess That Was Promised

Since Season 2, we've been teased with the idea of 'The Prince Who Was Promised' or Azor Ahai or the Lord of Light. Many people believe that it would be Jon, however, as Missandei pointed out in Season 7, Azor Ahai could be a woman, as the word for prince has no gender. This could mean that it could be Dany. It is said that in order for Azor Ahai to forge the sword that will defeat the darkness, he/she will have to kill the person they love most in the world.  This could mean Jon will sacrifice himself so that Dany could create Lightbringer to kill the Night King. Whilst this seems unlikely, as Arya killed the Night King in 'The Long Night', it could be possible for the Night King to come back, thus fulfilling this theory.

3. Jaime is the Prince that was Promised

For this next part, I will be quoting '30 Best Game of Thrones Theories For Season Eight' by esquire.com;

"Azor Ahai is a legendary figure "who fought against [the darkness] with a red sword" and "arose to give courage to the race of men and lead the virtuous into battle with his blazing sword Lightbringer." According to prophecy, "When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone." Melisandre is a Red Priestess in the religion of R'hllor, who has been searching for The Prince That Was Promised—or, a prophesied savior in the religion of the Lord of Light, who is often considered to be a reincarnation of the legendary hero.

...the High Valyrian words for "Lord" and "Light" are "aeksio" and "onos." The words for "gold" and "hand" are "aeksion" and "ondos." If that sounds familiar, that's because Jaime happens to have one hand made of gold, and he's jokingly referred to himself as Goldenhand.

If that's not enough, other fans have pointed to Jaime's character path as a whole, which mirrors that of The Prince That Was Promised. Consider what happened to him in Season Seven: Jaime was literally consumed by fire when attacked by Dany's dragons and has risen from that battle reborn—in the sense that he literally changed sides in this war—to go join the living in their fight against the undead."

Whilst this may not be the most popular theory, it's the one I'm rooting for as it will mean that Jaime will have to kill Cersei in order to forge Lightbringer. It would also be a very big twist on the typical idea of a prophesied chosen one. We expect someone like Jon or Dany, who have always been righteous and honorable, but instead, we get a king-slaying, oath-breaking, one-handed man who slept with his sister and fathered her children. To say the least, it would be an interesting twist.

4. Arya will kill Cersei wearing Jaime's face.

Now, we've learned a lot about Arya and the Faceless men and it is very possible Arya will use this ability to get close to Cersei... by wearing Jaime's face. There's two things to support this:

1. Melisandre had told Arya that she would close many eyes forever - brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes. Brown eyes fits in with Meryn Trant and blue eyes references the Night King. Could it be the green eyes she closes forever are Cersei's?

2. We saw that Cersei has a predestined fate that her little brother would kill her. She assumed that this would be Tyrion but it could also be Jaime, as she was the twin who was born first. Could it be that Arya will use Jaime's face to kill Cersei?

5. Jon and Dany will betray each other.

So, this theory is becoming more and more possible, what with Dany knowing Jon is the last Targaryen male heir to the throne and being very insistent on him keeping this information to himself. This could lead to  a very real power struggle between the two for the throne, despite the fact that Jon claims he doesn't want it. For this next part, I will be quoting from esquire.com again, to help explain this better;

"In a vision in the book version of the House of the Undying, Dany is given this prophecy: "three fires must you light... one for life and one for death and one to love... three mounts must you ride... one to bed and one to dread and one to love... three treasons will you know... once for blood and once for gold and once for love...""

It could be that this third betrayal is Jon betraying her for the throne or Dany betraying Jon to ensure she doesn't have her right to the Iron Throne questioned.
