How to Keep Your and Your Friends Safe on Holiday in Lifestyle

Holidays are all about having a good time - but while we can be tempted to let our hair down a bit more when we're away somewhere new, it's still really important to make sure to stay safe.

1) Know the way home

On your first day, take some time to get your bearings. Have a walk around the local area and figure out how to get back to your hotel. Why not screenshot a Google maps image of your route home to save money on data? You can always ask reception or your holiday rep for directions too.

2) Stick with friends

Just as you would at home, make sure you travel back to your hotel with your mates. Don’t walk home alone, and always make sure you tell your friends where you are.

3) Have a back up plan

Before heading out, arrange a place for you and your friends to meet up if you get separated. It might also be a plan to keep a note of everyone’s mobile numbers on a bit of paper in case you need to get in touch, and your phone battery dies.

4) Keep your drinks safe

Home or away, it's always important to keep an eye on your tipple of choice. Don't accept drinks from a stranger, don't leave your drink on a table or at the bar, and keep a hand over your drink while you dance.

Remember, you should always be careful about how much alcohol you're drinking on holiday and stick to the recommended limits.

5) Only take the essentials

You probably won’t want to lug much stuff about with you anyway, but you should leave your valuables in your hotel safe rather than carrying them with you. It's also a good idea to take some cash with you and leave some at the hotel, so that if you lose your purse or wallet you've not lost all of your money. Make sure you take a bag that closes over, the you can secure across your body and that you can keep a hand over - rather than a backpack - to stay safe from pickpockets.

Oh and avoid bumbags, they scream tourist!
