2017 is the Year I Will... in Lifestyle
Do you have any resolutions this year or plans to cut things down? Why not take some inspiration from this list. What will 2017 bring for you?
Smoking is an addictive habit – the nicotine contained in cigarettes sends your brain positive signals, making you feel better, so your body wants more and more. Take that away and your body can find it difficult to cope. However, quitting is not impossible!
Top tips for quitting:
- Tell your friends, family, and social media networks you are quitting. The more people that know, the more people there are to give you support and help you out. Keeping track of how you are doing and how far you’ve come will only motivate you more!
- At the end of each week, or month, buy yourself something nice with the money you would have spent on cigarettes - you can splash out on some new clothes that won’t be ruined with the stale smell of cigarette smoke.
…cut down on the booze
While it may sometimes seem that lots of social events always involve a tipple or two, alcohol isn’t key to enjoying your night out. You don’t need to go overboard, or even drink at all, to have a good night out.
If you do go out partying often, why not try and cut down on how much you drink – if you make sure to have a few soft drinks, or some water between alcoholic drinks then you’ll find you drink less.
Why not kick-start your resolutions by participating in Dry January, which will allow you to raise money for charity as well as lowering your alcohol intake. Plus, your healthier habits can help towards achieving better sleep, brighter skin and a fitter body.
If that’s not enough motivation, you can also save a bunch of cash by cutting down on your drinking.
…have the confidence
Maybe 2017 is the year you become the person you want and know you can be. This could mean finding the confidence to go for what you want (be it a job, or a higher education course… or that person you’ve had your eye on for a while) and to know what it is you don’t want. It can take a while, but figuring out what you do and don’t want to do can help you a lot in all parts of your life.
If you don’t want to do something your friends are doing - have the confidence to say no. If you see an internship that looks great fun – have the confidence to apply for it! You decide what you want to do…
It’s okay for it to seem daunting at first, but your future self will thank you for it! To get you started check out our tips on being confident.
…remove the toxic
Do you feel like you don’t fit in with your friends? Or feel pressured to wear the clothes, or do the things they want to, without them supporting you for who you are? Do you feel like your partner always puts you down?
Make 2017 the year you get rid of the toxic influences in your life. It might seem scary to leave a friendship group or a relationship that you are used to, but it will do you the world of good to do so! Strike up a conversation with somebody in a class that you enjoy... you might find they are a part of a much better crowd to be around!
Get involved in hobbies you enjoy, or try something you’ve always wanted to – you deserve to be surrounded by people who support you and help you flourish and make you feel comfortable. Life is too short for people who make you feel bad!
The best way to make yourself feel better, relieve stress and improve your health is to get active!
By getting your body moving you boost your mental health as well as your physical health. It might be hard to motivate yourself to go out for a run when it’s so cold outside, but there are plenty of fun classes and indoor activities you can do.
Why not look and see what your local gym is doing? In the New Year it will be full of newbies like yourself, so don’t be scared that you’ll be the only person not knowing what they are doing!
You can even have a look at some of the free exercise classes available on YouTube if you are a bit strapped for cash, or if you just want to stay at home to exercise.
You can also chat to your GP who can advise on the type of exercise that might be best.
